I don't like being told that I should be proud that a recognition of the work I do every day comes down to an action figure who's main power is to shush people. Also, I don't like being told that I don't have a sense of humor because I can't just laugh at the doll and leave it at that. Obviously non-librarians are not going to appreciate the work librarians do just because we now have an action figure, but it would be nice to have some visible representation of librarians that puts us in a more friendly and positive light. What we really need is a librarian celebrity -- maybe after Ahnold finishes ruling California, he can get an MLS and become our real-life action hero. Or maybe not.
