I also remember his grandfatherly imposition of martial law in Berkeley for the better part of a month, and the eventual city-wide Memorial Day parade under the truckloads of heavily-armed National Guardsmen that resulted in its being lifted. For that period, you couldn't have two people "congregating" in public...ah, life in America. One letter in today’s SFChronicle noted Reagan’s obliviousness re AIDS, also re homelessness.
