The goskokie “hypercommunity” recently discussed by Dan Gillmor as an example of New Media is coming under a bit of good-natured skewering for not being updated. It turns out that wretched technology is to blame–something to do with php (which has to be good, because it’s open source! Is it time for me to launch my dirigible on that topic?).
All in all, it’s still a cool-beans idea. Where I live, several of us started blogs, but we really should have had ONE blog and posted to it–imagine a place where we could gripe about Comcast outages, reported on goings-on, etc. I stopped mine for reasons that shall remain shrouded in mystery, at least online, but the idea was good.

PHP is good. Not because it’s open-source. But it’s good because it does many web-things people need in a fairly accessible way (in programming language terms).
“Hyperlocal Blogs”, however, are applications that are *far* more enrapturing to A-list blog-evangelists, than the people who are supposedly served by those applications.
