The New, Improved Barbara Boxer?

The Human Rights Campaign just hit me up for money for Barbara Boxer’s reelection. I checked my bookmarks, and reminded myself of Boxer’s words on Friday, February 20, 2004. “Democratic U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer, running for re-election, said Thursday: ‘The [Mayor Gavin Newsom] has decided to challenge state law. My opinion is that state law is fair and appropriate because it gives equal rights and responsibilities to all citizens.'”

In that case, Barbara Bush Boxer, my opinion is that you have enough money and supporters to get reelected without sliding your fingers into my wallet. And shame on HRC for asking me for money for her without bothering to mention how Barbara Bush Boxer turned tail and ran from gay marriage when she could have used her position and power to support Mayor Gavin Newsom and the miracle at City Hall.

I haven’t written yet about what it feels like to have my marriage invalidated. It’s not that it’s too painful; I’ve just been collecting thoughts. I submitted an article to Chronicle Forum that was gently rejected, and since then I’ve been mulling.

I’m supposed to write a three-page letter for class next week, and I’ve been thinking it should be about this subject. Now I can’t decide if the intended reader should be our friends and well-wishers, Boxer, or the Human Rights Campaign.
