We have the advantage in the blogosphere of going back and fixing when print publishers do not. We will all make mistakes and even jump to faulty conclusions -- even if we've done the research. It IS acceptable and important to admit mistakes. I don't like the idea of potentially discouraging new bloggers by insisting they be perfect although I agree that they should do a little research and thinking prior to posting. But I see blogs as a medium, not a genre--and having a set of ethical guidelines for writing a blog seems to me as problematic as having a set of ethical guidelines for writing a book. What _kind_ of book? A novel? A reference manual? A collection of poems? I wrote in the summer of 2003 about my unwillingness to adopt a specific code of ethics or posting guidelines for my blog.
