A very thought-provoking post -- thanks. You might want to check out this fascinating entry by Kathy Sierra at the group blog Creating Passionate Users, about what neuroscience tells us about the effects of hanging around angry/negative people. (Thanks to Stephen Abram for pointing it out on his blog.) When you check out Kathy's post, don't stop at the end of the article -- the ensuing discussion in the comments is equally fascinating. Kathy's final sentence goes well with your Frankl quote: "Remember the flight attendant's advice... you must put on your own oxygen mask first."

Hey Zoe, that quote is from Man's Search for Meaning, see WC record http://www.worldcatlibraries.org/wcpa/ow/63ad14085dffcda2a19afeb4da09e526.html (I thought it was OW, but someone from inside the Big O referred to it as WC). Good book, anyway!

Thanks for sharing this. It IS all too easy to get caught up in vortex. Pardon while I exhibit my inability to find any time to maintain any pretense of being well-read... but could you share the source of the Viktor Frankl quote? It resonates.
