Via IM. Somehow that was the right way to hear about it. John and I were partners in crime back in the days when we founded PUBLIB. In fact I still have lots of old email messages from John at that time. Well, we agonized together about appropriate use of the list and made up a lot as we went along. John and I never lost touch. In fact he had recently sent me email about being on one of his podcasts. John was an inspiration to a lot of us; I will miss him very much. Anything I can do to help this resolution get passed, I'd like to help. It would be nice if PLA could give the John Iliff Award-- possibly to honor some cool tech project or early adopter individual from a library serving under X people--or something.
