I tried a .44 once; you folks can't see me, but I'm not even five feet tall. It blew me so far away I had to take a plane back from China.

Thanks, Metaphorical... I put a moratorium on submitting it until guns can be fun again. (I had just sent it to a literary journal when VTech happened... it bounced back like a rubber band!)

If you think a Glock 19 is sexy, wait till you get your hands on something like an HK Mark 23 or a Smith & Wesson model 629 .44mag...

Seriously though, thanks for this. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy when I read about someone "understanding".

I am a woman, and a Librarian, who also finds guns intriguing. I was raised with them in my life, and fired my first weapon (with supervision) when I was six.

It is a huge relief to see that there are reasonable people in our community, (those who read, and those who write) who can separate the tool from the deed. That is not universal – heck, it’s not even widespread.

Cho - that deluded, damaged, loathsome individual - did horrifying things with his two pistols. I have heard a lot of people respond as if the guns were the problem, not the sick man who wielded them and took those lives.

(I was at the Computers in Libraries conference when this happened; let it just be said that I did a lot of lip-biting, and holding my tongue)

And for the record, I have a Glock 26 – with my itty-bitty hands, I need something smaller. Fantastic, lovely, and a great deal of fun.

Very thought provoking post. I have never been a gun fan, but you have helped me to see how someone can be and how close the line can be. Fortunately for all, there will never be many who cross it, unfortunately for some, there will be those who do.
