I did like "Into the Wild," in a way I did not at all like "Into Thin Air." Krakauer is not a great prose stylist, but he is terrific at characters, and the characters in "Into the Wild" are very appealing.

Did you really like "Into The Wild"? I read it when it first came out, and I'm a huge Krakauer fan in general, but I thought it only an okay book.

Well... I said in class today that people trust librarian's opinions about books, and that's something we can leverage. It's not that I *have* to review or discuss books, or that it's all I know how to do, but as a librarian, when I review books, people listen -- that's obvious from the stats. I consider it part of our bibliomystique. ;-)

Here we go again, someone is "shocked" that a librarian does something other than review books. Librarians are so much more than that, and you, Karen, are a star and a fabulous inspiration to many people who are looking far beyond any random book! Your reviews are great, but review books when you feel like it, not because it's your *responsibility*, k?

Entirely seductive review, thanks. Now I just have to figure out how to get the local library to buy it. That was simpler when I _worked_ at the local library :-)

It's true I review much less than I read... but even worse, my tags have very poor authority control! I just added two more categories to this post to paper that over for now. Over Christmas I'll do some authority work on my taxonomy. I should be *ashamed*...

Gosh, what gives? I checked your other posts tagged "Book Reviews" and there are so few! I am shocked , yes, and perhaps a teensy bit disappointed that a librarian would have so few reviews.

One theory might be that it is like the accountant that never balances his checkbox....or the web programmer that never posts on her own blog. (I am far too busy reading "A Winter's Tale" and slogging through "Flex 2.0")

I adore book reviews, in fact so much so that I miss that section of the LA Times more than I can say. Even though they never review SciFi, which hurts my feelings a bit.
