That's all we ask :)

We're going to videotape it, and that video's going to be posted on the web, but please don't tell anyone. We want people's RSSes in the seats!

Bummer!

Yeah, we're just one uppity little discussion group of one section of one division, so we don't have a budget or anything, which means getting onto radar scopes has been really challenging. FWIW, according to Tip Sheet #5: Effective Discussion Groups, the "Speaker should talk for no more than 20 minutes." So you won't miss too much exhibit/catch up time if you sit in on Aaron's presentation.

This sounds interesting, though honestly it's the first time it's crossed my radar scope, and it's too late -- the exhibits (which are essential for all of us) are also an opportunity for me to catch up on tech/professional talk with a beloved colleague. I have had to turn down a number of opportunities that showed up once I had fleshed out the bones of my schedule -- so it goes. I look forward to the program podcast.

I know that exhibits are important, but I was really hoping to see you at Aaron Swartz's presentation. He's our guest discussion leader for this year's University Libraries Section Current Topics discussion group. We're meeting on Saturday, January 12 from 1:30-3:30 p.m in the Philadelphia Convention Center (PCC), Room 108A.

The topic has evolved slightly since I first wrote about it. Aaron's presentation is going to be on "picking winners," the idea being that there are far too many new technologies out there for each person to try them all, but there are certain characteristics to look for in a new technology that can help you figure out whether its likely to be useful for you and your constituents. Aaron's put together a pretty amazing track record, and he's very excited about this presentation. Given your own fantastic track record in this area, I was really hoping you'd be able to attend... and maybe even direct a question or two his way.
