Tupelo honey is seriously yummy! It's one of those gifts to be able to enjoy something so good that's so local. Yes, though bees everywhere seem to be in trouble, there are at least two active bee farms (?) right now that I know of.

Thanks for the memories of winter oyster stew. I grew up in early '50s south Alabama and have great gustatory memories of my father's oyster stew, the only food he prepared beside Sunday pancakes. The backwoods of the Florida Panhandle hold another delicious treat - tupelo honey, it the bees have survived. Many years ago my mother's boss shared precious jars of tupelo honey from the Panhandle and that's a taste I'll always remember. Enjoy!

Having grown up in Lubbock, TX, I've never seen oyster chowder, much less tasted it. Your review makes me want to snag a plane ticket this morning and meet you at the Shell this afternoon!

Yes, I can relate! It has taken me a while to find the local foods -- I hope to blog about that as well. Glad you liked the review.

On this very snowy morning in VT you have me plotting the shortest path from here to the nearest coastal reqion with oysters to offer for the catch of the day. I do my best at the "localvore" thing here in VT--lots of wonderful dairy and seasonal veggies, but the seafood options are obviously limited.
