Just model it for them and they will follow suit. I flinch when I hear parents tell their reluctant reader kids that they have to read such and such - making it a punishment... I should have followed the "wait 24 hours to comment" rule and didn't, and you responded with grace and aplomb. As someone who was once "that kid" who couldn't be called to dinner for reading, I absolutely agree with you on sustained reading.
