Three years ago we moved and I mistakenly sold my New York Times Cookbook which had this recipe in it. EGAD!!!! Thank goodness and thank you, I found your recipe on line. The fruit is actually soaking in spiced rum as I'm writing this. Again, I'll have my favorite Christmas treat that I had enjoy for many years except the previous three. Also interesting to try is Black Cake from the Caribbean Islands. This requires a month of soaking the dried fruit in a combination of rum, sugar, and some sweet red wine. It is brutal and can only be eaten in small bites. The late great food author Laurie Colwin wrote about this in a long-ago issue of Gourmet Magazine. Excellent recipe – it is in my cookbook too!
