Like so many others here, I do not have anything to add, but do want to thank you for your insight and wise words! I am currently doing some research that will outline some of the top library blogs, and certainly want to include your blog on that list/report. Thanks for providing such great content!

Nothing to add, as I feel very under-informed, despite trying to keep up with the arguments.

It was great to meet you, very briefly, at the TweetUp at Conference. Gotta love Lamingtons!

This is a pretty nice shot across the bow of LIS education:

"Imagine too if the ALA LIS program accreditation committee held schools’ feet to the fire for producing graduates who understood (as much as any of us do) the complex publishing landscape and our roles in it as advocates and defenders — measurable with a four-hour closed-book final exam."

After almost 20 (omgwtfbbq) years with the last dozen or more focused on transitions from legacy collections to online access I thknk I might be able to pass your 4 hour test (as long as it doesn't require me to hand-write answers in a blue book)...

PS If there is not a required course in the LIS curriculum similar to what Dorothea offered/linked in a previous comment, there should be. That is a great syllabus... worthy of turning into a continuing education MOOC for librarians.

Please feel free to have a look at my summer-course syllabus at http://dsalo.info/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/855_2syll2012.pdf to see if it meets your standards. I'd wager that my students could ace that exam, but I'm just a leetle teensy bit biased. :)

About information flow, read Managing the Flow of Technology, by Tom Allen. I'm sure there is more recent work, but this is worth reading because a lot of the folklore you hear is based on researched covered in this book. If you hear "you only talk to people with in 30 feet", the original study said 10 meters.

Great diagrams, too.
