The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force has issued a press release about Cardinal Ratzinger, the new pope: “during the reign of John Paul II, Cardinal Ratzinger was the driving force behind a long string of pronouncements using the term ‘evil’ to describe gay people, homosexuality, and marriage equality. … it seems inevitable that this Pope will cause even more pain and give his successors even more for which to seek atonement.”
There are plenty of faith communities worldwide that welcome you just as you are. If you are Chrstian, try the Episcopal Church, the United Church of Christ, or the Unitarians, to name a few. Don’t let the doctrine of hatred and intolerance divide you from God.
A quote from my earlier posting:
“Do you walk out of your house of worship when they deny basic human rights to your friends, family, and coworkers? … Houses of worship also require money to stay afloat, so stop giving your money to humans who contort the messages of the Divine in order to discriminate.”
We all have to make our moral choices in this world, and I suspect that many will choose to move to houses of worship that welcome all. I know I have.

“We consider the election of Ratzinger is a catastrophe … We can expect no reform from him in coming years … I think even more people will turn their back on the Church,” said Bernd Goehring, of the German ecumenical group Kirche von Unten.
“It’s a historic moment, but a very sad one. He is even more conservative than John Paul II. All he knows to do is condemn, condemn, condemn,” said Agusti Capdevila from Barcelona.
“Ratzinger’s stern leadership of the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith, the modern successor to the Inquisition, delighted conservative Catholics but upset moderates and other Christians whose churches he described as deficient.”
“In a document in 2000, Ratzinger branded other Christian churches as deficient — shocking Anglicans, Lutherans and other Protestants in ecumenical dialogue with Rome for years.”
Amen to that! Too many good people feel separated from God because their church condemns them for who they are. Though I admire people who stay and fight, if they believe that working for change within is their calling and part of their faith journey.
But is it Good for the Episcopalians?
