In traditional bloggy style, I’m reporting that by way of Dan Gillmor I see Engadget is saying Pew is backing away from its claim that 6 million people have listened to podcasts. Dan had originally expressed doubts, and apparently those of us who were wondering if the survey’s wording had misled its subjects were not far off the mark.
Still, a lot of people listen to podcasts–and pretty soon we won’t even know that’s what we’re doing. Bloglines just announced that its aggregator is podcast-enabled, and darn tootin’ if it isn’t; I listened to several podcasts last night.

I’m pretty sure the only thing Bloglines did was publicize a bit of functionality it already had. That enclosure link has been there as long as I’ve been listening to podcasts (a little over three months now), but the tip didn’t turn up until last week. Or is there more functionality that I’m missing?
BBC radio 4 is helping spread the word on podcasting here in the uk, with a section on the growing trend in the US, on a “the World in your Ear” a radio programme on ‘radio from around the globe’

Greg, I noticed the podcasting functionality in Bloglines earlier, but it’s labeled so poorly I didn’t fully understand how it was working–was it dependent on the media enclosure, was it capturing podcasts, etc. Bloglines *explaining* that they offer this feature, and promoting it, makes a difference. Librarianship 101 🙂
