i could come up with a million reasons to gripe about the ALA Council “facebook.” It’s a kludgy web page. It doesn’t provide enough information about the members. It’s not up on Flickr. And so forth.
But I really enjoy seeing the faces of people I know–Bernadine, Michael, Thaddeus, Nicolas, Diane, Nann, Terri, Dennis, June, Virginia, Pam, Teri, Patti, Bob, and so many more.
ALA Council is a huge time-sink. But that doesn’t mean I haven’t spent many good hours with people I like. Good for ALA to put their faces online.
The only problem was that the names of the bottom row were cut off (at least when I saw it).
I’ll talk to the Membership Development office, though, and see if they could be put up on their Flickr account. I’m also trying to start a Flickr account for ALA staff, but I need an ALA credit card number to do it.
At this point, I’m not sure who put this page up, so first on my list is to find out! I’d like to talk a design that doesn’t force scrolling, among other things. But yeah, I love that the ball is rolling!
Heh, I know the story of this. It’s worth monitoring the Council list… amazing what you can find out that way.
Maybe it is the ignorance of the outsider, but based on following the link, that page just looks like a “rogues’ gallery.” Like you point out, no real profile information, and that scrolling is pretty bad. If this what ALA thinks is advancing, I think. . .well, I will quit while I am ahead. I already think little of the ALA page as a whole as is. I just don’t see the big broo ha ha. Best, and keep on blogging.
