Chris Rose at his ALA Booth

Chris Rose, Times-Picayne reporter, whose columns about life after Katrina are collected in the must-read, must-buy book, 1 Dead in Attic.

I heard him at a reading Sunday night, and this guy could read tax forms and make it all funny and new. He’s not looking funny here, and I wonder if, when I asked to take his picture, I caught him in a moment when he wanted to stop being funny and show me what living in New Orleans felt like, beyond the conference joie de vivre and in the day-in day-out struggle of a city slapped down by a horrendous event.

I would second your comments on Chris Rose. Besides being humorous, his columns also give serious insight into what it is like living day-to-day in New Orleans right now. I have a brother who lives in the city, and I went from obsessively reading everything on the Internet about New Orleans day-in and day-out (immediately after the storm, when it was difficult to talk to anyone there), to reading the Times-Picuyune web site, to today, when I usually just read Chris Rose’s column. His column usually sums up everything I need to know about what is happening.

He looks tired. I bet the entire conference was exhausting, especially when he had to be “on” for those interested in his books.

I read Chris Rose’s book, 1 Dead In Attic. I laughed and I cried. It was one of those books that you wish you could read forever. I live in Bogalusa and do not take the Times Picayune, A friend of mine in New Orleans saves his columns for me. I really love the way he writes. How can I read his columns online?
