( Gary responded — he’s real!)
(Note: I’ve put in a query to my contact for this survey. Is this a marketing scam, or a genuine request? What is real on the Web? I had several discussions with what I thought was a real guy… hmmm. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go help a nice man who’s having trouble with his Nigerian bank account…)
Are you interested in trying out new search technologies? A firm working with one of the top 3 search engines is seeking potential participants for their study. This survey isn’t too invasive, as these things go, and can be finished in five minutes or less. If you’re feeling experimental, give it a go.

A little unusual to ask for so many vital stats. Too bad, I would have liked to view all the questions.
Yes, I fail to see why your phone numbers have any bearing on their demographic data; I was booted out after the first page because ‘state’ in the drop-down was a mandatory field but gave no option for non-US location.
Maybe it isn’t a marketing scam, but it sure looks like one.
Hello
My name is Gary and I reached out to Karen, invited her to be a part of the program and post the link. Ammo Marketing is definitely an advertising/marketing agency, but this isn’t a scam.
Our particular angle on the marketing world is to bring in influential people to communicate directly with our clients and be engaged in programs. That’s why the questions ask you about what you like to do, how you communicate and so on. Hopefully they don’t feel too intrusive or odd.
I hope you take a look at the questions and consider applying for the program. I can’t reveal too many details, but I think it will be very cool and very fun.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel completely free to send me an email at (gstein [at] ammomarketing dot com).
Thanks for the time & space!
sorry: one more note. Unfortunately, we can only recruit US residents for this program. On retrospect, I should have noted that earlier.
Gary, thanks for the clarifications! See, he is a real person (I checked out his website, and if I were still in California I’d drive over to his office for a FRL “pose” with his marketing co.).

Yes, Gary is a real person and well-known in some circles :> and I emailed him about this survey. His response (which he gave perm to share) was that this was an unusual company with an unusual approach. I don’t know what that means but I reiterated that asking for personal info was odd and out of the ordinary and I was sorry I couldn’t take part. He never said why they needed the personal info.
All I know is that Google is much better than AOL, MSN, and Yahoo, but it’s only a matter of time before some other search engine comes along that does it better.
