I didn’t get a thousand requests to upload the slides, so I might or might not, but this is a re-creation of a picture of “LOCKSS Cat” from a sequence on how to set up a LOCKSS network.
Nice to be home in my fluffy pink bathrobe, reading the New York Times. I’m liturgist at the early service today so I will come home afterwards and do some nice domestic paperwork until the Y opens at noon.

Dot, the LOCKSS cat, how appropriate 🙂 I’d like to see the slides.
I’m always curious about the fine line that we (academics) have to walk when it comes to what we should get paid for. I’d love to hear more about why you turn down honorariums when you’re “attached”–it’d be good advice for those of us who are just getting started in our careers.
Millie, will do… after we grocery-shop and I go to the Y. I am so stiff I creak when I walk. 🙂
Cliff, it’s not really an academic issue per se. This may be my own approach, but if I’m employed by an institution that grants me “away” time to give a talk, and my travel costs are covered, I do not accept honoraria for these talks. It would be kind of weird if I did… like double-dipping. The exception might be if the talk involved a work product that was so separate and distinct from my day job, and created very clearly on personal time.
LOCKSS cat FTW! Can I post it to lolbrarians (with credit)?
Dorothea, LOCKSSCat and I would be so pleeeeeeeeezed if you did post it to lolbrarians. I don’t have an LJ account or ‘twould done it myself.
I really enjoyed your presentation and it did touch my paranoid nerve, as you said it might. It made me think about how we can keep so busy trying to provide access to our resources, that we lose track of the bigger picture such as turning our content to private profit making companies (kind of focusing on the tree instead of the forest). And I have to say it was thrilling to meet you personally!
Mike, it was great to meet you, too! NASIG was wonderful. You remind me, I have pictures to upload..!
You probably won’t get a thousand requests for the slides since attendance was around 550-600 this year. Still, I know many would appreciate them, including whomever is the proceedings recorder for your talk.
I don’t know if I got a chance to tell you that I enjoyed your presentation. It gave me a lot to think about.
