If you’re like me you woke up this morning and thought, wasn’t I supposed to do something today? Then you remembered: it’s election day, and the primary choice seems to be between the gingham cat and the calico dog, ripping themselves apart on prime-time TV.
Forget them. Go to the poll and vote. Vote yes on 81, for badly-needed library construction that will help many of California’s libraries get out of the pre-Prop-13 rut they have been in for almost thirty years. Then call two or three of your friends and make sure they vote too. Make sure EVERYONE where you work has voted, and if you need to, arrange rides or prod them.
I’m prodding right now, and then I’m voting.
Posted on this day, other years:
- Links on the Grill - 2008
- ALA Annual 2007: My Schedule - 2007
- Free kittens, author thereof... - 2007
- 8 Random Things Meme - 2007
- New Home for Free Range Librarian - 2004
- The National Lobotomy - 2004
It is sad that it went down, but certainly no surprise. With such a miserably low turnout, it didn’t stand a chance.
I was pretty dissapointed that this got almost no publicity. The LA paper supported it. The OC paper opposed it. The Jarvis crowd, who always turn out for their issues, did their worst.
